Sometimes the best photos are the unexpected ones. What once I could not know in that moment, I know now: all memory is memory of irrevocable loss. Today I'll never know what could have been. Blindly facing all possible pasts, different lives shuffled, shuffled in an afternoon of playing cards. The other side of yesterday, too, is unknown — no less than tomorrow or the next day. In my hand I hold a present and all these lives I have never lived, only this one. Only this once.
